Discover West African Rhythm through Drumming and Dance (Grade levels K – 12) In this workshop, students will learn the three basic sounds of the African djembe. They will also learn basic techniques of hand drumming, focusing on drumming styles found in the Ivory Coast. Q & A with the artist follows. Duration: 50 min.
Artist will provide up to 30 drums per classroom. Requires armless chairs set in a circle.
West African Drumming and Dance Residency (Grade levels K – 12 and colleges) This is a great way for students to be immersed in the culture of West Africa. They will learn about the rhythms, songs, and languages found in the villages of the Ivory Coast. Residencies will be custom tailored to fit your students’ needs. Performance may be included with students participating. Residency can be day long to a week or two.
